We’re constantly told to “be kind.”

But the phrase itself feels patronising. Because nobody should be telling anyone to be anything.

The person saying Be Kind it often placing themselves in a position of righteous superiority — as though they are the authority on goodness, and you are failing at it.

Is saying “be kind” actually kind?

Truly kind would be saying: “You are kind.”

“Be kind” implies that you are not.

And what happens if a bumblebee is so determined to be kind that it never stings when it needs to?

We need bees. To pollinate flowers. To protect the hive.

The heroes of this world are rarely heroes because they pleased everybody.

They became heroes because they stood their ground.

So let's not confuse kindness with weakness.

We do not need to be cruel. We do not need to hurt people.

But we do need to be a kind of fierce.

Strong enough to protect our peace.

Strong enough to say no.

Strong enough to remain soft without allowing the world to walk over us.
